Gratitude has become a popular practice in recent years. It’s often associated with improved well-being and sense of contentment. Gratitude can also support the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind’s primary goal is to protect us and it constantly seeks certainty. By focusing gratitude on core aspects of life that provide stability, we can create a reassuring sense of certainty for the subconscious mind.
How Gratitude Can Work
Gratitude is a deliberate acknowledgment of various positive life elements. It is beneficial to appreciate “small things” like a pleasant conversation or a walk outdoors. And, recognizing the larger items in life could benefit the subconscious mind. These items could be a safe residence, nourishing food, meaningful work, and close relationships. When we consciously recognize these elements, we affirm their value and presence, which can have a calming effect on mental and emotional states.
Certainty and the Subconscious Mind
The subconscious mind thrives on patterns and predictability. While we may take certain aspects of life for granted, the subconscious does not inherently know these elements are secure. To benefit the subconscious mind, it’s helpful to actively acknowledge these core items. This reinforcement signals to the subconscious that in these areas, there is a degree of certainty, which can ease overall anxiety.
Focusing on Core Areas
To maximize the benefits of gratitude for the subconscious mind, it can be helpful to emphasize foundational areas of life that often feel “always” present but are deeply significant. These might include: Residence, Food, Occupation/Income, Friends and Family, Transportation/Freedom.
While it’s good to be grateful for all aspects of life, reinforcing these foundational items helps create a sense of stability, allowing the subconscious to focus its attention on other areas.
The Long-Term Impact
Over time, this daily practice could revise thought patterns and temper anxious thoughts. It also provides a clear message to the subconscious mind. This sense of certainty can be transformative, helping to ease anxiety.
